A report funded by the Department of Environment and Primary Industries in Victoria on the use of EID in a commercial situation and a comparison of pedigree identification methods is now available. Although big differences in performance between individual sheep in a mob are known, without full pedigree and individual performance analysis it is often hard to identify the full range of performance and where each animal is placed. Electronic identification technology allows easy data capture and the ability to then manipulate this data to extract useful information and performance history.
